Sydney’s Young Adult Chabad have distributed hundreds of latkes and doughnuts in Martin Place.
Days after the horrific terrorist attack, Sydney’s Martin Place remains packed with a multitude of people, placing flowers and paying their respects.
Chabad has erected the 30-foot Giant Chanukah Menorah the very same place it has stood annually for the last thirty years, anchoring one end of Martin Place with a giant Christmas tree anchoring the other
The Menorah displays the following message:
“The Jewish community of Australia expresses our deepest sympathy for the families of the Martin Place tragedy. May the Lights of the festival of Chanukah bring comfort and warmth to our nation”
The young adults, led by Rabbi Eli and Rebbetzin Elka Feldman distributed hundreds of latkes and doughnuts to security officials, workers and pedestrians.
People from all walks of life, including Jews, Christians and Muslims shared the Chanukah treats.
It was a special moment for many who shared in the Chanukah spirit encouraged by its message that our shared humanity and the light of goodness will always prevail.
Meanwhile, in Sydney’s Bondi Junction mall, State Members of Parliament Gabrielle Upton and Bruce Notley-Smith and Waverley mayor Sally Betts, Councillor Leon Goltsman and Jeremy Spinak president of The New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies joined Jewish House Rabbi Mendel Kastel in celebrating Chanukah using a Menorah made of doughnuts.
A large crowd attended the SZCWA & Maccabi WA Chanukah Celebration held at the Maccabi Oval in Dianella, Perth this afternoon.
The compere was Russell Woolf of ABC Radio and the Menorah was lit by Rabbi Shalom White
