Chanukah message from John Robertson
The Leader of the Opposition in the NSW State Parliament John Robertson has sent a message for Chanukah.
His message:
This evening, Jewish people across NSW and the world will come together to mark the beginning of Chanukah by lighting the menorah.
This observance brings together so many in the community to mark the liberation of the Jewish people, and the miracle of the oil that burned for eight nights.
In light of the tragic events in Sydney, the symbol of the candle is more relevant than ever. The flame illuminates and warms not only the individual lighting it – but all those in its path.
Now more than ever, our society must find the light within and bring warmth to all around us.
The rich tapestry of cultures and faiths makes our State such a fantastic place to live – and NSW will continue to be home to people of all backgrounds living peacefully side by side.
Let us each spread our warmth, and our light, by setting an example of resilience, tolerance, peace and goodwill.
I thank the Australian Jewish community for your outstanding contribution to our State and the leadership role you play in so many fields.
On behalf of the Labor Opposition, I wish all Jewish community members a happy Chanukah.
