On behalf of the NSW Labor Party, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the Jewish community across Australia and the world as Hanukkah draws closer.

Hanukkah is a powerful celebration of freedom and hope. Jewish families across Australia will celebrate the liberation of the Jewish people by the Maccabees and the rededication of the Temple.

Over the eight days of Hanukkah, families and friends across the Jewish community will come together to celebrate, feast, sing together and light the Menorah.

Hanukkah is also a time to celebrate the bonds that hold our communities together as a multicultural country, and to the values which we all hold in common.

I wish the Jewish community across Australia and overseas a safe and happy festival of lights.
