NSW Minister for Communities and Citizenship Victor Dominello sends Chanukah greetings…

It gives me great pleasure to extend my best wishes to the Jewish community of New South Wales on the occasion of Chanukah or the ‘Festival of Lights’.

This ancient feast is a powerful affirmation of Jewish identity, and represents the community’s strong commitment to peace, unity and respect.

Celebrated over eight days, the lighting of the menorah symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, and the importance of faith in helping us overcome even the greatest of obstacles.

Each year the Premier proudly hosts the annual lighting of the menorah at Parliament House, in association with the Yeshiva Centre attached to the Chabad NSW Headquarters, and the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.

Jewish cultural celebrations, like Chanukah, are firmly enshrined in our State’s annual programme of multicultural events.

I hope that the universal message of love and respect demonstrated during Chanukah adds to a greater understanding and respect between all communities in New South Wales.
