Change at the top for UIA
Lance Rosenberg has retired as the Federal President of the United Israel Appeal following his three-year tenure, handing over the reins to Esther Frenkiel.
The announcement was made at the the UIA Australia Federal Conference, held on Monday.
Esther Frenkiel served as the Vice-President for the past three years.
Rosenberg’s prolific and impressive list of UIA roles includes NSW Chairman 2008, 2011 to 2012, NSW President 2013 to 2018 and Federal President UIA Australia from 2018 to 2021. Over the years, Rosenberg’s contributions have also been recognised with awards like the Donny Lambert Award for inspiring and ensuring the continuity of Israel and the Jewish people through the Young Leadership Division of UIA, NSW, (1994), the Key to Jerusalem by Keren Hayesod-UIA (2018), as well as a Certificate of Recognition and video of appreciation, both in 2018. In 2019, Rosenberg was made Life Chairman of UIA NSW.
Lance Rosenberg said, “After a lengthy stint as State and Federal President, this is not the end of my association with KH-UIA, but merely the end of another chapter in this journey. Whilst we explore avenues where my experience in the wider organisation can be deployed, I will continue as a keyworker and canvasser assisting the current executive and campaign – back to where I started 40 years ago.
I am delighted to be handing over to Esther who is extremely capable, experienced and will certainly reinforce the ‘One UIA approach’ we both adopted, coordinating and strengthening co-operation between all the states. I wish her well and hope to continue working with her albeit in a different capacity. I am also looking forward to seeing the fruits of all the states’ hard work over the year.”
Frenkiel is also no stranger to UIA and has a history of voluntary positions for over 30 years, beginning as a canvasser in the early 90’s. Esther co-chaired the Victorian Women’s Division from 1997-2007, then served as the UIA Victoria Chair from 2006-2011. For the past three years, Frenkiel has been the UIA Australia Vice President. Frenkiel received the UIA Askan award in 2002 and the Federal Askan award in 2009.
“Lance leaves this prestigious post with big shoes to fill. I have enjoyed working alongside him, and look forward to continuing his great work. These past two years have been challenging for all, but the strength of the UIA global family – our dedicated team, lay leaders and generous donors have emboldened our passion, drive and determination to fulfil our mission for the people of Israel. I am proud to take on these reigns and continue steering this incredible organisation from strength to strength,” Esther Frenkiel said.
UIA Australia CEO Yair Miller added, “Lance has led UIA from the front for over 30 years. His unbroken connection since his days in Young Leadership, through various divisions within NSW, and finally the role of President of UIA Australia is an amazing testament to his commitment, passion and leadership. Lance has always ensured that the needs of the organisation have been front and centre and it has never been about recognition or reward.
Lance has mentored many other lay and professional leaders as they have become involved with the organisation and is he is one of the key reasons that UIA Australia is in the strong position in which it finds itself today. I look very forward to working with Esther.”
