It is the third time the 20-yr-old has taken out the Australian championship. Solomon ran in the colours of the Californian university where he is studying medicine.

On his Facebook page Solomon, who started his athletics career while at Cranbrook School in Sydney,  said:   “Very proud to win the Australian 400m National crown yesterday in Melbourne (45.36).

I owe an enormous Thank You to friends and family both near and afar for all your support. I am excited to move forward with the outdoor season when I return to Stanford on Monday.”

Solomon has not competed sufficiently in Australia to be automatically selected for the Australia team heading to Glasgow later this year to compete in the Commonwealth Games. However, it seems highly unlikely that will not be selected.
