Cents for Senses reaches its target
Jewish Care Victoria’s first digital crowdfunding campaign, ‘Cents for Senses’ succeeded in raising the target amount of $21,530 within 30 days.
The money raised will be used to purchase vital equipment to be used in the adult and children’s sensory rooms located in the new Coppel and Piekarski Family Disability Respite Centre in Caulfield.
The campaign had an overwhelmingly positive response, where almost 100 supporters donated to the campaign, and hundreds of people shared it across Facebook and other social media channels. As a result, Jewish Care achieved its goal of connecting with and building awareness amongst a broader audience.
Jewish Care CEO Bill Appleby said that “Jewish Care is thrilled with the result of its pilot crowdfunding campaign. We are grateful for the community’s engagement and contribution to such an important cause, where our clients will now be able to receive the most up-to-date multi-sensory equipment.”
A sensory room is designed to develop senses through specific lighting, music and tactile objects. Sensory equipment assists in developing important life skills including vocalisation, gross motor skills and colour recognition, and can be used as a therapy for adults and children with limited communication abilities.
The $8.5 million Centre is currently under construction and is due to open in December 2015.
