Celebrating Israel and the Point of No Return
The National Council of Jewish Women of Australia’s Celebrating Israel 2015 event entitled “Point of No Return” will be dedicated to the plight of Jewish Holocaust survivors from Europe and the Jewish refugees expelled from Arab countries prior and post the ‘Partition Plan’.Sydney’s “Celebrating Israel” marks the historical vote by the United Nations General Assembly of resolution 181, on 29 November 1947, which called for the establishment of a Jewish State alongside an Arab State, in mandatory Palestine, paving the way for the establishment of the State of Israel, the legitimate homeland for the Jewish people.
Upon the declaration of the establishment of the State of Israel the Arab League avenged to destroy Israel and resolved to change the status of Jews living in Arab countries. This triggered a dramatic surge of discrimination, abuse and pogroms and an estimate of 856,000 Jews were forced to flee from their countries of birth.
On their arrival to the ‘promised land’ reality did not match the vision of a peaceful solution as presented by the United Nation Ad Hoc Committee on Palestine. The Jewish refugees who fled death and destruction faced further trauma due to the British Mandate rules and restrictions as well as the daily attacks by Arabs refusing to accept the two States for two people solution
Whilst the ongoing conflicts and bloody wars waged on Israel resulted in the loss of many lives on both sides of the battles Israel continues her quest for peace in the Middle East.
