Candies versus Pizzas…writes Michael Kuttner
When Israeli civilians, especially women, children and babies, are murdered by Islamic terror the inhabitants of Gaza and the Palestinian Authority erupt in waves of euphoric joy.
Rushing into the streets, mobs of ecstatic Palestinian Arabs hand out candies and sweets as they express unbridled happiness at the death of Israeli civilians. Adults and children alike, inflamed by poisonous hatred, dance and celebrate. Likewise when Israeli soldiers are killed in action against terrorists, the local Arab population lets off fireworks in celebration of more glorious victories.
It is important to know this as your local media will certainly ignore these manifestations of love and peaceful intentions. They will instead concentrate on Gaza civilian casualties without dwelling on the fact that Hamas is using the civilian population as one big human shield and that in the Arab media exhortations of pride at martyrdom is being encouraged and promoted.
In direct contrast to this sick cult of death, Israelis mourn every innocent death and even do not dance in the streets every time another terrorist is dispatched to paradise. They certainly distribute food but the motives are entirely different and more in line with time honored Jewish mother traditions of making sure that children are well fed.
The current campaign against the jihadists in Gaza is a classic example of an authentic Jewish response. Recognizing that soldiers on the front line and in action day and night need more nourishment than the regular army rations can provide, Israelis from north to the south of the country are collecting food parcels and delivering them to the troops. Every imaginable culinary delicacy is being sent. Not just junk food but tons of pizzas, enormous quantities of home baked food and cakes and beverages of all descriptions. In addition vast quantities of toiletries such as soap, shampoo, wipes etc. are also being distributed. I have no doubt that if this was winter there would also be liters of chicken soup (the ultimate Jewish secret weapon). This is a major logistical exercise and is being undertaken with military like precision.
In our town of Efrat for example citizens deliver on a daily basis food to a central collection point and from there it is taken to wherever it is needed most on the front line. The response throughout the country has been overwhelming. All sectors of society are participating, secular and religious, young and old, olim (new comers) and veterans.
This is the difference. We celebrate life and our neighbors celebrate death but as usual the world is not interested.
