Canberra community awards
Three long serving members of ACT Jewish Community Inc were awarded Life Membership for a lifetime of service to the Jewish Community in Canberra.
The recipients, Sylvia Deutsch, Adele and Dr David Rosalky were honoured at the organisation’s AGM.
“Receiving honorary life membership is a source of mixed pain and pleasure,” said Sylvia Deutsch in a statement. “It is a very special community, whose founders had the intelligence to envision an inclusive religious, social and cultural centre for Canberra¹s Jews, and where everyone could make a contribution to communal life.”
Rosalky praised his wife Adele who has been part of the to the Community since childhood with her involvement in a wide range of activities
“It is a particular pleasure for her to have her name added to the Life Members’ Board with those of her parents” said Rosalky.
Robert Cussel stepped down after three years in the role, as required by the constitution. Former vice-president Yael Cass has taken over as president, with Cussel as vice-president.
In his report, Cussel singled out key recent achievements by the board as the appointment of the community’s
first salaried rabbi, Rabbi Alon Meltzer, encouraging participation of younger members, support for a range of religious, education, commemorative and social events, furthering links with the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, the NSW Jewish Communal Appeal and Jewish Care in Sydney, and improvements in its office systems and communication.
Cass outlined the enormous contribution made by the outgoing President in driving a very significant agenda leading to an explosion of community growth.
”He has planned for the future , worked on organisational reform and we are all lucky to have benefitted from his passion, commitment and contribution” she said.
