Eugene Goodvach was visiting his country property in Marysville when the area came under threat  from the ferocious bushfires.

It is understood he was evacuated to Alexandra by emergency services and his family was unable to contact him. Marysville was all but totally destroyed by the fires which claimed the lives of over 180 people…the worst worst bushfires in Australian history. Authorities believe the final toll will be much higher as many people remain unaccounted for.

Goodvach, like Jewish academic John Barnett who perished with his wife Jenny, in the inferno, visited his country home most weekends. Marysville, less than 100 kms from Melbourne played host to many of the city’s Orthodox Jews who have celebrated Pesach there for the last 20 years. Their venue was totally destroyed.
