Brian Sherman passes away
Brian Sherman AM passed away on Sunday following a debilitating sickness from which he had suffered for a lengthy time.
He was born in 1943 in South Africa. In Australia, he and his partner Laurence Freedman created funds management company Equitilink which proved more than successful.
He took part in controlling the finances of the 2000 Olympic Games, took Network 10 from receivership back to profitability, and became the Chair of the Australian Museum Trust.
He and his wife Gene became significant philanthropists in the arts and medical science.
He mentored his son Emile who is now an Oscar-winning producer and was heavily involved with his daughter Ondine with Voiceless, an animal protection organisation.
Brian Sherman was instrumental in The Rambam program run by The Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council.
AIJAC’s National Chairman Mark Leibler and executive director Dr Colin Rubenstein said: “Brian Sherman was a unique figure whose relentless energy spanned so many different worthy causes as he strove to make Australia and the world a better place.
We are proud to say that AIJAC, and especially our RAMBAM study visit program to Israel for politicians, journalists and other opinion leaders, greatly benefitted from his inspiration, generosity and dynamism. He was a trusted confidante, wise counsellor and loyal friend, and his loss will be deeply felt by everyone associated with AIJAC. We wish his family our sincerest condolences and may his memory be a blessing.
The natural world has lost a great protector. So many people who live on this planet see animals, plants and the planet as just being there for human use and convenience and so few people out of the billions that inhabit this planet work for the well-being of the natural world. Thank you Brian Sherman. My heart goes out to your family and friends.
