Bob Kucera on Toulouse
Bob Kucera, a former West Australian Labor minister, is Chairman of the Friends of Israel (WA). He sends readers this message following the murders in Toulouse…
“I have watched with horror at the events that have unfolded in France over the past week. My heart-felt sorrow and prayers go out to all those families that have so tragically lost their loved ones.
I met my 5 year old grandson yesterday. At the gates of his school he ran out to meet me with that look on his face that only a grandfather could understand. “Hi Pop” he said, grabbed my hand and lead me over to meet his mates.
As I watched them I couldn’t help but think of those three other grandfathers, today on the other side of the World in Toulouse, who won’t be standing outside the gates of Ozar Hatorah School. They will be standing at the graves of their grand-kids.
The entire World must condemn this act of senseless butchery! The deliberate, cold blooded murders of innocent children, a man of god and proud Frenchmen who fought for their country, serve no purpose other than to highlight the depravity of any who would perpetrate or condone these atrocities in the name of their religion, or whatever twisted cause they seek to follow.
Similarly, the World should condemn all who seek to mitigate this act of barbarity by trying to compare it in any way with the theatres of conflict currently happening across the Globe.
In that regard, I read with dismay and downright disgust the comments attributed to Baroness Ashton, the Foreign Affairs Minister for the European Union, where she seeks to ally this abomination with the current conflicts in the Middle East.
France is a democracy, founded on the rule of law and the equality of its citizens regardless of their race, creed or religion. The murder of these children is simply a sick perverted criminal act. It should be recognized as that by the likes of Baroness Ashton. As we weep for those innocents and bow our heads in prayer, may she hang her head in shame!
Today when I meet my grandson, I will offer thanks for his safety. May we hope that in some small way, the efforts of organizations such as ours can help steer him and our World toward a future that rejects the doctrine of death whilst celebrating the dignity and sanctity of life.”
Bob Kucera speaks for most rationally thinking people. God Bless him. As for that Baroness Ashton – her head must be in a really dark place – her comments should be eschewed by all.
