Lesli Berger told J-Wire: “The Boards is non-partisan and I will work closely whoever wins Saturday’s election. We certainly acknowledged Dave Sharma for his work in NSW Jewish community’s securing the $2,2 million grant to improve our security needs. We have been to get this much-needed help for years.”

The president added that whereas that although the Board cannot endorse any candidate it will comment on any parliamentary party policy.

Initially, the NSWJBD president requested that the flyers should be withdrawn from circulation.

The Emanuel Synagogue reached out to their members followed an article in the Sydney Morning Herald referring to Rabbi Jeremy Kamins.

The letter, signed by the rabbi with the CEO and president stated: “In relation to an article quoting Rabbi Kamins that appeared over recent days on our website, in the Jewish News and the Sydney Morning Herald, we would like to confirm that neither Rabbi Kamins nor the Emanuel Synagogue endorse any political candidate or party in the upcoming Wentworth by-election.

Rabbi Kamins sees his role as a teacher of Torah values.

We encourage the members of our congregation to exercise their democratic right and vote according to their conscience at the upcoming Wentworth by-election.”
