Sydney’s Board of Jewish Education has recently hosted a Weekend escape camp.

More than  75 high school students from across NSW attended the 4 day-retreat, sponsored by B‘nai B’rith Sydney Masada Lodge 1546.

Lead by experienced and knowledgeable Israeli shlichim, the students learnt and participated in activities that explored Judaism and Israel, self-development and awareness and the running of a meaningful Shabbat service. Not just that though, the student also got to enjoy some hiking and bonfires too to get into the true weekend escape spirit.

Some lucky year 11 leaders were also appointed junior madrachim of the camp and were very keen to be involved in this area of development and leadership.

Ari Turkia, BJE’s informal High School Coordinator pioneered the event’s activities and will be continuing the tradition throughout the year of bringing students together to mingle over lunch, movie nights, coffee chats, leadership seminars and charity work activities, just to name a few.
