Sydney’s Masada College, Kehillat Masada and Montefiore are jointly exploring an opportunity to create a long-term partnership that would see significant reinvestment into the Masada College site in St Ives.

Together with the JCA, the parties share a vision to reinvigorate this communal asset by bringing together Jewish education, a synagogue, communal infrastructure and aged care facilities to meet the current and long-term needs of the North Shore Jewish Community.

The Masada College Board of Management sees significant potential to reinvest in the site whilst bolstering the long-term financial position of the College. The key benefits of such a partnership may include:

  • The construction of world-class educational and recreational facilities to meet and exceed the needs of its teachers and students.
  • The ability to attract and retain the highest calibre teachers to continue to deliver an outstanding Jewish and secular academic product.
  • Increased financial support for a greater number of Jewish Families to attend Masada College.

Co-presidents of Masada College, Danny Cohen and Howard Sher, said, “We are excited to explore what a partnership with Montefiore could yield for the College and broader North Shore Jewish Community. This opportunity aligns to the first phase of the Board’s strategy to deliver a strong, sustainable and affordable world-class Jewish day school offering. We are looking forward to bringing our key community stakeholders along with us as we progress with this fabulous opportunity.”

Montefiore President David Freeman added, “We are delighted to be working with the Masada College Board and our respective architects on a master plan for the site, which we envision will deliver a state-of-the-art school, communal facilities and world-class aged care accommodation, including seniors living apartments and a residential aged care facility.”

JCA President, Ian Sandler, said, “We are extremely encouraged by the conversations and collaborative strategies being explored and discussed by Masada and Montefiore. Our Community is at its best when we work together to deliver innovative solutions. While there is much due diligence and discussions ahead, we are confident any decisions made will be for the benefit of Masada College, Kehillat Masada, Montefiore, the North Shore and broader Sydney Jewish Community.”

All parties are committed to ensuring there is strong and broad communal consultation and engagement throughout the process and sharing our intentions whilst in the early stages of this prospective partnership.
