Big Cheque – Big Thank You
The Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies hosted a thank you barbecue in the Queensland Capital…and received a cheque from the Jewish House in Sydney for over $47,000.
The funds mainly represented the proceeds of the Ark Aid concert in Sydney last month. Also on hand to help was the unusual partnership between Virgin Blue and Solomons in Melbourne. The airline flew 50kgs of sausages from the Melbourne butcher for the occasion. The rolls for the barbecue did not have to travel the same distance. They were donated by Goldsteins at the Gold Coast.
President of the WJBD Jason Steinberg thanked all those who had donated to the relief fund to help those financially disadvantaged by the destructive summer floods. Israeli ambassador Yuval Rotem joined the Executive Council of Australian Jewry’s president Dr Danny Lamm and the Jewish House’s Rabbi Mendel Kastel in presenting the cheque .
Ari Heber, who runs the Queensland Jewish Community Services told J-Wire: “Mention must be made too of local business who donated prizes for the auction and the raffle. A further $1300 was raised.”
Jason Steinber told J-Wire he “was pleased with the community’s reaction to the event”.
