Dahlia Dior

It includes a fusion of new and well known songs with genres ranging from World Music, folk, Jazz, torch, to classical music from the turn of the century laced with contemporary overtones.

The show is the last one in a very busy year for Dahlia and draws from her knowledge both as a musicologist and her experience in showbiz that spans 50 years. The show will transport you to lands far away and reinvigorate your passion and love of music from different cultures and remote places. As usual, Dahlia displays her linguistic talents singing in Hebrew, Greek, Arabic, Spanish, Turkish, French, Yemenite, English, Ladino and Yiddish.

In Spain and Beyond Dahlia Dior will transport you from the exotic sounds of Moorish Spain into the rich musical tapestry of the Mediterranean, including hot-blooded Spanish and Ladino songs La Serena and Angelitos Negros; the evocative allure of Mon Amour Aranjuez; the Greek folk melodiesYerakina  and Misirlou;  the passionate Israeli Keren Or with its dazzling percussive artistry; the rousing desert sounds of Innocent and Middle Eastpleading for the fate of refugees; the well known Judeo-Spanish song Adio Querida in tango style with castanet flair; and Adamo’s world music classicInshallah.

Once again Dahlia will be accompanied by some of Sydney’s finest musicians, with musical director Llew Kiek (guitar, oud, bouzouki), Mark Ginsburg (saxophone), Mark Szeto (double bass), Chris Fields (drums), Jared Mundel (clarinet), Marilyn Schock (castanets), plus the dazzling vocal harmonies of the Songster Trio, Andrea Catzel, Judy Campbell and David Gal..

Jerusalem-born Dahlia commenced singing at a very early age, quickly establishing herself as one of the most popular performing artists in Israel, climaxing with her starring role in the Israeli musical – Kazablan (Israeli version of West Side Story), which ran for 2 years. She is a singer of enormous vitality and energy, and her styles include jazz, blues, torch songs, and international cabaret. Dahlia can authentically sing and interpret songs from all over the world, and is indeed one of the most versatile vocalists, singing in over 20 languages. She began her international career in London’s prominent West End clubs such as the Astor Club and George Raft’s Colony Club on Berkley Square, and also in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Manila and Bangkok. In Australia Dahlia has performed on the same bill with legends such as Ray Charles, Matt Monro, Blood Sweat and Tears, Lulo Reinhardt, and the famous Metropolitan Opera tenor, Jan Peerce.
