The ceremony took place at the Zionist Council of Victoria Executive Meeting held at Beth Weizmann.

The Victoria Volunteer Award acknowledges the generous contributions volunteers make to the community.

Mr Samuel was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division in 2009 and has been a valued member of the ZCV Board and Executive for over 20 years. He contributes his time to over a dozen organisations on a volunteer basis.

Mr Southwick commended Mr Samuel’s dedication to a range of community organisations and causes. “Ian can always be relied upon to lend a hand, support others and provide the wisdom and advice so needed to keep other volunteers motivated.”

“Ian is a brilliant advocate for Israel and Jewish causes… and a wealth of communal historical knowledge preserving this for future generations”, Mr Southwick added.

President of the ZCV Sam Tatarka said “Ian is a most deserving recipient of this award as it recognises the invaluable contribution of the thousands of hours he has dedicated to service of the Jewish and broader communities.”

Mr Samuel thanked his wife Shayndle for her ongoing love and support and his family for “bringing him up in a house of giving back to the community”.
