The Australian War Memorial has been daubed with pro-Palestinian slogans.

ACT Policing says the National War Memorial and Museum in Canberra was graffitied in three areas at about 1am on Friday.

Investigators are searching for a man who was recorded by CCTV and wearing a black jumper, a black face covering and khaki pants with dark knee patches.

Officer in Charge of City Police Station, Acting Inspector Lisa Broomhall, said the criminal damage of the war memorial was unacceptable.

“Police are very disappointed this morning to see a national institution, which holds a special significance to many, being vandalised,” she said.

“We would like to remind the community that while peaceful protest is part of healthy democracy, criminal acts will not be tolerated.

Why even bother to carry on about peaceful protest as part of healthy democracy in the same breath as speaking of this abominable act? It’s ridiculous. Leave it and allow the focus to stay on an act such as this committed by Pro-Palestinian supporter. These people don’t deserve to live in a democracy.
