Comedian Austen Tayshus returns to Bondi in October and November after his sell-out season in 2019, described as “comedy at its best”.

Sandy Gutman aka Austen Tayshus

The Eastern Suburbs’ comedian vaulted to national prominence with his recording Australiana which was number one on the charts for 13 weeks and remains the biggest-selling Australian single ever.

After his performance with The Bondi Theatre Company in 2019, Mandy Nolan wrote that “every show is unique. He weaves current politics, what’s happening in the room, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, semantics, religion, and sport. Tayshus is a man of controversy. There is no subject he won’t dissect.”

David Baran wrote about Austen’s alter ego Sandy Gutman, “it is Gutman’s power, presence and ability to negotiate through his routine at lightning speed which sets him apart from the rest. Pulverising the audience with gag after gag.”

This time Austen Tayshus has a unique warm-up act – former barrister, author and film producer Charles Waterstreet.  On sabbatical from his busy criminal practice, Waterstreet is humbled and proud to support the legend of Australian Comedy, as he himself, is a legend of Australian crime.

“ A laughing jury will not convict, ”said Waterstreet.

The co-creator of Rake , the ABC bestselling and rating series, will reveal some of the secrets behind the robes, 40 plus years of jury trials, which he has drawn upon as a basis for a stand-up career without a captive audience.

Charles recently cut his teeth supporting Austen Tayshus in out-of-town tours, including Dapto Diamond Dogs, RSLs and sports clubs around this great state.

Austen Tayshus will appear at the newly renovated Bondi Pavilion Theatre as part of the Bondi Theatre Company’s Comedy and Cabaret season.
