The Polish Ambassador has written in conjunction with the Israeli Ambassador to all major Australian  media objecting to Auschwitz being described as a “Polish concentration camp”.

In a letter of explanation to the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, the ambassadors have echoed each others views that “any falsehood and especially one  concerning the greatest tragedy of the past century should be treated as offensive to anyone regardless of race, religion or nationality.”

They wrote that misleading information such as Auschwitz having been a Polish concentration camp is harmful to “both our communities and adsversely imopacts on Polish-Jewish relations in general.”

It a very well known fact that the camps were installed and managed by the Nazis whilst they occupied Poland, nevertheless it is dissapointing to see in the media (most recently the New York Times) references made to to “Polish Concentration Camp”. Considering the amount of information and research that is available on the subject, one would think that reputable media organisiations check their facts prior to publishing their material.
