The Auckland Jewish Community recently held a function to honour Ambassador Tzur co-sponsored by The Auckland Jewish Council, Auckland Hebrew Congregation, Beth Shalom and the Zionist Federation of New Zealand.  Appreciation was expressed for the excellent work done by the Ambassador representing the interests of Israel and the Jewish Community to the people of New Zealand, the press, government, trade and other groups.  A spokesperson said: “Shemi was always willing to assist us and take leadership were necessary.  His efforts have greatly strengthened the relationship between our two countries.”

Particular mention was made of the challenges he faced, during his 3 year tenure, of re-establishing the Embassy after an 8 year absence.  The assistance offered and given to New Zealand following the tragedies of Pike River Mine and the Canterbury earthquake was acknowledged.

The spokesperson added:  “Shemi will be missed but has established a firm base for the future.”
