Russian Aslan Karatsev has reached the quarter-finals of the Australian tennis open, disposing of fellow Jewish competitor Diego Schwartzman on his way through.

Yesterday, he won a five-setter losing the first two to Canadian Felix Auger Allassime,

He will meet Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals.

Aslan’s mother and sister live in Holon, Israel. Left Israel aged 12 years old. The 27-yr-old represents Russia in Davis Cup.

    good to see a nobody go so far in a major … i’m a federer fan who respects nadal, but i also love djokovic, so i have lots of skin in this game (tourney) … that said, it would b great to see a jewish player establish himself as a leading tennis player … hopefully, there would b no anti-semitic backlash, and i hope he conducts himself well
