Antisemitism envoy Jillian Segal gets down to work
In Argentina, to mark the 30th anniversary of the AMIA Jewish centre bombing, Australia’s Antisemitism Envoy Jillian Segal is meeting up with leaders of worldwide Jewish communities, including the US Antisemitism Envoy Deborah Lipstadt.
July 18 is the 30th anniversary of the AMIA bombing, when Hezbollah terrorists blew up the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina Jewish (AMIA) community centre in Buenos Aires. 85 people lost their lives. Hundreds of families today are still seeking justice for their loved ones. Hundreds of Jewish community leaders, politicians, and diplomats are standing in solidarity.
Carly Shamgar, Chief Operating Officer of theExecutive Council of Australian Jewry said: “Following the October 7 massacre in Israel, antisemitic incidents in Australia rose 738%. From Jihadi flags and flares on the steps of our iconic Opera House to vandalism of a Jewish Member of Parliament office, concern in the Australian Jewish community remains heightened. We welcome the government’s recent announcement of Australia’s first Antisemitism Envoy, former President of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Jillian Segal who has called for a national strategy to combat antisemitism and will report directly to the Prime Minister.”
Jonathan Greenblatt, Director of the Anti-Defamation League said: “Antisemitism is a threat to democratic societies. We will not stand for it—not in the US, not in Argentina, not anywhere. It’s time for the world to take antisemitism seriously and join us as we fight against it.”
Jillian Segal and other Special Envoys & Coordinators Combating Antisemitism will hold a major meeting convened by the World Jewish Congress, will discuss what their governments can do to counter racism and antisemitism.
Deputy President of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Robert Goot is also attending the events in Buenos Aries.
Would be a great opportunity for all these envoys to speak out against President Biden and the UN Security Council for ignoring that the Jews have vested rights under articles 6 and 25 of the 1922 Mandate for Palestine and article 80 of the United Nations Charter to reconstitute the Jewish National Home in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) and Gaza.
