The ECAJ wrote to Professor Warren Bebbington expressing concern about reports of “harassment, intimidation and bigotry against Jewish students on campus”.

ECAJ president Robert Goot and executive director Peter Wertheim praised the Vice-Chancellor for sending a message to the student body that “racism had no place in civilised society”.

Professor Bebbington had assured the ECAJ that surveillance had been increased on campus and that the the SA Police had supported the monitoring. He wrote: “I want to reassure you no form of racism or discrimination is condoned here”.
