A unique Melbourne organisation cares for the physical and emotional needs of families, whilst their loved ones are undergoing hospital treatment,
by providing them with ‘a home away from home’ – a quiet place where they can stay and recover their emotions in a
private setting.

Beit Rafael’s fully self-contained apartments in four suburbs, including foodstuffs, are available
to members of the community at no charge.

The Beit Rafael Benevolent Institution, was established by Adina and Shimon Allen in 2012 and is registered with the Australia Taxation Office as a ‘Public Benefit Institution’ with fully tax deductible (DGR) status.

The organisation is named in honour of Adina’s father, Rafael Birnbaum  and the name RAFAEL is the name of one of G-D’s
 four ministering angels, specifically charged with the healing of the unwell.

To date, Beit Rafael has assisted hundreds of families. In cases a family may only require the apartment for the day,
 in other circumstances the apartments are used for weeks or even months at a time.

An additional Beit Rafael initiative is the Medical Shuttle. This vehicle, with an in-built wheelchair facility, assists
community members who require transportation to and from medical treatments and appointments.
A team of trained and dedicated volunteers are available to drive patients at pre-arranged times.
