An angel for the homeless
Sydney’s Jewish House has received a gift of $1 million to allow it to expand and improve its facilities to provide refuge for the homeless.
Nora Goodridge has been following the work done by CEO Rabbi Mendel Kastel and his team at the Bondi care and refuge facility for some time. Her handsome donation was announced at Jewish House’s annual information last night.
She has pledged the money over the next few years.
Rabbi Kastel told J-Wire: I am extremely grateful and hope this will encourage others to support this work, too.”
He added: “Not many members of our community are aware of the extent of the instances of homelessness experienced by Jews. There are people living in cars and in parks. Very often it is the result of domestic violence or crippling money problems.”
Rabbi Kastel said that it was the largest donation ever pledged to the facility.
