He told J-Wire: “The worst seems to be over for many but there is still concern for a few”.

Heber said that many homes were without electricity and as mobile phones’ batteries ran out of power, communications were becoming difficult. He said: “There are still many people on holiday and we are yet to get the all clear that properties have sustained no damage.”

“The power failures are patchy,” said Heber. “I have had no power for 24 hours but people a block have not been affected. I have received no calls for help yet but there may be people without power who cannot make contact.”
