Alert level raised
The Alert Level for the Jewish Community in Australia has been raised to Level 5, ‘Heightened’.
The Alert Level has been raised due to an increase in antisemitic incidents, threats and suspicious activity recorded by CSG, and an increase in general discussion and spotlight on the Australian Jewish Community. This increased attention occurs within a recent global threat context that includes several high profile terror incidents against Jewish and other sites worldwide, which has resulted in a heightened local environment.
A further increase in antisemitic incidents directed towards the Australian Jewish Community is possible, including online, telephonic and/or written threats against Jewish Community sites and/or persons.
There is no specific information regarding an imminent attack or direct threat against the Jewish Community.
However, CSG reminds the Community to remain vigilant and alert throughout this period and during upcoming Community activity leading into Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israel’s Remembrance Day (Yom Hazikaron) and Israel’s Independence Day (Yom Ha’atzmaut).
CSG continues to monitor the local security environment and liaise closely with Australian law enforcement, and will provide notification to the Australian Jewish Community regarding any significant change to the current threat level or environment.
All antisemitic incidents and suspicious activity taking place at or around Jewish installations should continue to be reported to CSG on 1300 000 CSG (1300 000 274). This includes suspicious people, objects or vehicles around Jewish buildings or events, and suspicious correspondence including telephone calls and mail.
