AIJAC to make an official submission to the ICC
The Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council will join three Australian academics to make a submission to the International Criminal Court opposing the issue of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant.
The application was approved on 22 July by the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
The reasons that will be argued to oppose ICC authority to issue the arrest warrants are lack of ICC jurisdiction, lack of reasonable grounds for arrest, procedural inadmissibility, and a well-founded perception of prosecutorial bias.
Permission to submit amicus curia observations was granted in an ICC order also to 70 other countries, organisations and individuals. The observations must be lodged with the court by 6 August.
