ADC condemns daubing
The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has condemned an act of antisemitic vandalism against the Maroubra synagogue in Sydney in which a swastika was spray painted on the front of the synagogue’s wall.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission said: “This is an attack all those who cherish the values of religious freedom and must be denounced by all Australians in the strongest terms. I am deeply troubled by this brazen and hate-fuelled assault on a Jewish place of worship, aimed at striking fear at the very heart of the Jewish community.
This is the latest in a string of antisemitic attacks, and we say once again that such abhorrent expressions of racism run counter to our country’s values of acceptance and respect for all faiths. Whenever a synagogue or any other house of worship is defaced and subjected to bias-motivated crimes there is a tremendous emotional damage caused to community members. The ADC encourages anyone with information to come forward, and it is our hope that the perpetrators of this intolerance will be appropriately prosecuted.”
