ADC applauds Clinton’s BDS position
Australia’s B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has commended Hillary Clinton’s strong anti-BDS statements and her commitment to fight the insidious attempts to isolate and delegitimise Israel.
In a letter to Haim Saban and Jewish leaders, the democratic presidential hopeful sought advice on “how we can work together – across party lines and with a diverse array of voices – to reverse this trend with information and advocacy”.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, said: “We thank Hillary Clinton for her willingness to stand up and voice her principled opposition to the biased anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and for making this a priority.
Her public pronouncement is a critically important step in the effort to combat and disrupt the BDS and its malicious objective of marginalising and vilifying Israel. We agree with Clinton’s remark that the “BDS seeks to punish Israel and dictate how the Israelis and Palestinians should resolve the core issues of their conflict” and that “this is not the path to peace.”
We also concur with Clinton’s declaration that we need to mobilise elected officials, prominent business people and community leaders in crafting a strategy to better inform and explain to the public why the BDS movement damages the prospect of peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
It was also gratifying to read Clinton’s rejection of the misleading and false comparison of Israel to Apartheid South Africa and her assertion that we should forcefully counter attacks that “malign and undermine Israel and the Jewish people.”
We applaud Clinton’s overarching message that it is the duty of all good people to take a strong stance against the growing defamation of Israel and to do all that is possible to defeat the hypocritical and destructive BDS”
Ah, yes; but what will she say and do after she is elected?
