Across the political divide
NSW Labor frontbencher and NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel deputy chair, Walt Secord has paid tribute to Malcolm Turnbull, saying his successor in Wentworth will have “impossibly large shoes to fill when it comes to supporting the Jewish community and Israel”.
“Over the last decade or so, I observed and encountered Malcolm Turnbull on many occasions at Jewish communal functions. His affection and understanding of Judaism and Israel were truly impressive.
“I once attended a Chanukah event where Malcolm spoke in English and then switched to Russian, Hebrew and Yiddish. It was heart-felt and seamless.
“His support for Jewish causes and Israel was genuine. He was a strong friend to the Jewish community and supporter of Israel.”
