ABC to screen top Holocaust documentary
UK distributor Mercury Media has sold Inheritance, an Emmy-winning documentary telling the story of a woman facing the legacy of her Nazi leader father, to Australia’s ABC.
The film by Oscar-winner James Moll has previously screened on ARTE in France, Noga in Israel and on PBS in the U.S.
It focuses on Monika Hertwig, the daughter of Amon Goeth, prominent Nazi leader and commandant of the Plaszow Concentration Camp. Hertwig discovered her father’s past as a teenager, and was forced to come to terms with his legacy after Ralph Fiennes portrayed Goeth in Schindler’s List.
Mercury’s chief executive Tim Sparke said: “This sale of this challenging production to the world’s leading public service broadcasters demonstrates their renewed vitality. It is to their credit that they individually recognize the power, value and importance of independently produced documentary film.”
BBC executive producer for acquisitions Carol Sennett added: “Inheritance is one of the most emotionally resonant documentaries about the Nazi Holocaust I have ever seen. We are delighted to be showing it on BBC television.”
