A bestselling book, documentary and now Netflix series, Unorthodox has cemented itself as part of the 2020 zeitgeist.

Shalom Sydney Jewish Writers Festival (SJWF) is thrilled to announce Deborah Feldman in conversation with Michaela Kalowski this Wednesday 13th May from 8-9pm. The event will take place on Zoom and will include a q&a from the audience.

Author Deborah Feldman was raised in the Satmar Hasidic community in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. She now lives in Berlin with her son. Deborah is the author of two memoirs, Unorthodox and Exodus.

Michaela Kalowski is a Sydney-based interviewer and moderator for writers, film and ideas festivals. She has interviewed writers and thinkers from the worlds of arts, science and politics, including Margaret Atwood, Trent Dalton, Amos Oz, Tom Keneally, Turia Pitt and Charlotte Wood. Michaela has also conducted radio interviews for ABC Radio National’s The Music Show and Big Ideas and is on the Sydney Jewish Writers Festival programming committee.
