G’mar chatima tova—I send warm greetings to all who celebrated Yom Kippur.

Anthony Albanese

This day of atonement bears witness to the solemn power of reflection, and the joy of forgiveness and redemption. In the encounter between these opposites, we find healing and a new chapter of hope.

In a world marked by divisions between nations and peoples, the prayers and rituals of Yom Kippur remind us that reconciliation is possible. On this day, our Jewish neighbours show us it is a goal we must seek with open arms, open minds and open hearts.

The ancient traditions and beliefs of Judaism elevate the gifts of gentle kindness, forbearance, self-reflection and mercy. As you practice them at Yom Kippur, you share their spirit with all Australians, of every faith.

In this sharing, we celebrate the legacy of the many faiths and cultures that enrich and strengthen our nation.
