A Pesach message from Alan Tudge
As Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, it is my pleasure to send my warmest greetings to Australia’s Jewish community on the celebration of Passover or Pesach this year.
Passover celebrates the liberation of the Jewish people.
The fact that Jews in Australia are still celebrating Passover after thousands of years, demonstrates the strength and endurance of the Jewish people over the centuries.
It is important that the story of the Exodus and the freeing of oppressed people is not forgotten.
Today Australia has a vibrant Jewish community of well over 100,000 people.
The significant contribution of the Jewish community to the life of our nation is worthy of recognition.
Australian Jews have made important contributions to Australia in the fields of industry and technology, the arts, and commerce and trade.
Through interfaith dialogue, the Jewish community actively promotes harmony and cross-cultural understanding in this nation.
Australia’s cultural, religious and linguistic diversity, based on the successful integration of migrants, is one of ours greatest strengths. Celebrations like Passover contribute to our rich multicultural tapestry.
I send my best wishes to all Jewish Australians as you celebrate Passover.
