While placing this ritual item on his branch office, Mr Hamer expressed excitement about explaining to his local constituents the true purpose and symbolism of the mezuzah, as it signifies the ‘original Jewish flag.’

Despite Mr Hamer representing a predominantly Chinese Australian community, he never misses an opportunity to talk about Israel his culture and the Victorian Jewish community.

Rabbi Gabi Kaltmann commented: “It was a true honour taking part in this special Mitzvah with my good friend Mr Hamer and Rabbi Gutnick. Paul is one of a small but significant cohort of Jewish members of Parliament from all sides of politics that do a fantastic job in representing our community in the House.”
