A Kangarusski Chanukah
Kangarusski friends and supporters joined together in Sydney to celebrate the miracle of Chanukah, the end of another good year and the spirit of our community.
Kangarusski is the Russian Speaking Jewish Community (RSJC) department of the Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA),engaging members of the Jewish community with Russian background with both Jewish and Israel content. It has been further developed by a dedicated volunteer base with the desire to celebrate their Jewish heritage and revive their Australian Jewish social epicenter.
Kangarusski volunteers organised a diverse range of fun activities for children and adult sincluding a BBQ, latke station, jam donut challenges, traditional Hanukkah songs and Israeli music. The evening culminated in the lighting of the 6th Hanukkah candle in the city’s Centennial Park. The blessing was recited together with all present and provided a beautiful conclusion to the celebration.
Faina Romanov, a long-time volunteer said: – “For our families, Kangarusski events are very important, they allow our children to keep in touch with our Russian Jewish heritage, history and traditions and today was a beautiful example of that.”
