A Jewish Santa
Why is this Santa different from all other Santas?….because he’s Jewish!
71-yr-old Norman Lieber has been battling his way into his Santa suit this year to keep the children visiting the Harvey Norman store in Sydney’s Moore Park entertained with his infectious smile and holiday spirit.
Lieber, who grew up in the U.K. city of Nottingham has been playing Santa for 25 years.
He told J-Wire: “I get parts regularly in TV commercials and was approached by an agency looking for Santas and have been doing it ever since.”
Lieber started his career in Johannesburg where he moved to from England before immigrating to Australia 15 years ago where he carried on the tradition. He has
“starred’ in Sydney’s top department stores Myers and David Jones.
He said: “One of the reasons I do it is because of my fondness for kids. Sometimes, when Chanukah is being celebrated, I see kids and parents walking past me wearing yarmulkes and displaying their tsitses. I get a lot of joy at watching their faces when I shout out ‘Chag Sameach’ from my chair as they pass by.
Lieber added: “One of the warmest moments for me this year was when a kid who was around ten years old said to me: ‘I don’t want any present this year Santa. I’ve got enough. I want peace for all the children around the world.”
