A convict Shabbat at Sydney’s Great
‘Convict Shabbat’ will celebrate all those in the Sydney community who are the descendants of convicts.
Rabbi Shua Solomon, a descendant of convicts, will give the sermon and Beth Hise, a convict historian, will address the congregation.
Rabbi Solomon told J-Wire: The table below shows my convict ancestry.
As you can see, there is one direct relative who is a convict, the others are siblings of convicts who joined their family in the colony through chain migration from the 1820s-1840s.
All together, there are four convict lines in the family. They are Nathan, Simmons, Moses and Hart.
