A chat with Dov Farkas
Caulfield Shule’s Cantor Dov Farkas leads the Caulfield Hebrew Congregation in their prayer, with a magnificent tonal voice that is virtually rapturous.
Being originally from Sydney, where he was inspired by his father, the world-renowned Chazan Shimon Farkas, who leads the prayers at The Central Synagogue in Bondi Junction, with the great Rabbi Levi Wolff.
In the times of COVID, every congregation in Victoria cannot function for the foreseeable future, so all services and events have gone online, using Zoom to connect.
These circumstances have created a whole new way to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and the other High Holydays to bring in the Jewish New Year 5781. There will be a Selichot Midnight Shabbos Tefilah on Zoom on Sept. 12 to bring together over 20 local shules in online harmony and prayers, lead by Dov on piano and good friends Rabbi Moshe Kahn of DaMinyan, Rabbi Shmuel Karnowsky from Elwood Shule, Chassan Brett Kay from StKilda Shule, with Tunni Fogelgarn on guitar, who all sang “Avinu Malchenu”‘ at a Sing-A-Long, which is featured at the end of the segment, filmed by Zalmi Glassner.
