A 90th Barmitvah celebration
Tomorrow’s Shabbat HaGadol will be great for 103-year-old Lenny Lipman, who will celebrate his 90th Barmitzah anniversary by reciting the Haftarah in Sydney’s North Shore Synagogue.

Lenny also read the Haftarah on his 87th Bar Mitzvah anniversary when celebrating his 100th birthday.
Len was born in South Africa and moved to Australia in 1987. Len has been preparing for this occasion for close to a year with the assistance of The North Shore Synagogue’s senior minister, Rabbi Paul Lewin.
Lenny Lipman told J-Wire: “I feel very blessed and honoured to be able to read my bar mitzvah anniversary haftorah at my age of one hundred and three. I have read many haftorot at various shuls in Australia and in South Africa. I hope I may encourage and inspire others to follow in my footsteps.”
Rabbi Lewin said: “Lenny is an inspiration to our entire community and his celebration this Shabbat, called Shabbat Hagadol, certainly is the correct title for a Shabbat to honour a great man, mensch and a role model to us all.”
After the service, there will be a kiddush in his honour where he will be joined by his two sons, his daughter, their partners, plus his grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
