The ECAJ on Malmo
The Executive Council of Australian Jewry has issued a statement condemning public and media indifference following the bomb attack on Malmo’s Jewish Community Centre.
The Executive Council of Australian Jewry executive director Peter Wertheim said: “It is bad enough that the Jewish Community Centre in Malmö was attacked with an explosive device and bricks through its reinforced entrance just after Yom Kippur. What is worse is that in Sweden, a country that prides itself on its progressive human rights record, the authorities lack the courage to confront the pervasive Jew-hatred that produced this attack in the first place and to bring the perpetrators of past attacks to justice. Worse still is the apparent public and media indifference.
Seventy years after Europe was devastated by the Nazis, antisemitism is once more commonplace and tacitly accepted on that continent. European civilisation has failed to cast off its long and disgraceful history of anti-Jewish prejudice and persecution. The mark of Cain remains etched indelibly on its forehead, and for this it will one day again pay a terrible price.”
Dr. Samuels’ account on what is happening to Malmö’s beleaguered Jewish community
Liat and Otto are spot on. As usual our leaders have fine words to say, when they deem it safe to utter them, but there is no action. Why is there no demonstration in front of the Swedish embassy? Why is there no demo in front of ABC and SBS? Why not issue a news release and demand answers from the Australian and the Fairfax press if the items are not carried? Why not contact our FM to complain about Jew hatred in Sweden?
Why no action? Because that would be so unurbane, so undiplomatic, so non-gentile. Why some might even think that we are Jewish and accuse us of being un-Australian cum Israel firsters if we make waves over the treatment of Jews over the far seas. Protesting about Australian’s treatment of asylum seekers in OK.
Peter Wertheim’s words are excellent for what they say, however to whom has this statement been issued?
If Peter Wertheim would bother to join the Jewish community in its show of concern, I presume he would answer that he addresses it to all and sundry. That is quite ok, but the above brief objection shall remain perfunctory if not engaged in a far more elaborate strategy of enforcing Jewish stances through clear and open personal leadership quality appearances in the public domain. A very good example to follow is the “in our face” constant presence of all manner of detractors of Israel and all matter Jewish.
I keep saying all this stuff, and, silly me, keep forgetting that these top communal blokes are, in actual fact, PERFECT !!!!! beyond reproach, or, G-d forbid, criticism.
While the entire (7 minutes) speech, nearly 3 years old, is spot on, it becomes specifically relevant to the subject of Judenhass in Sweden at minute mark 4. Towards the end it even makes the suggestion that the Nobel Prize should be deported to Tel Aviv, “where it belongs” and I think the speeker’s tongue in saying this, was only half-way in his cheek:
Hang on, the issue here is that Australian media is ignoring Jewish concerns.
This is precisely what I have been telling all and sundry:
It is not just the media ignoring us when it comes to seeking Jewish stances on specific issues.
This is the very issue of our own Jewish communal leadership failing consistently to make itself known to the media in a manner that would urge media to contact those leaders in a reflexive manner , simply because they are known to the media outlets by virtue of their – Jewish leadres’ – proactive efforts of being known outside the exclusive comforts of their immediate community.
I suggest ECAJ write another letter of protest to Messrs. Media, or, actually , why not at least 11 letters…………….
Surely the ECAJ jests?
“Worse still is the apparent public and media indifference.”
Of course there is. What makes this any different?
This is in Malmö has been going on for years and the Mayor is not interested.
There is plenty on the internet in regards to Jews and Malmö.
A good account on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_Sweden
The fact is Malmo’ s Muslim population has swelled to 15 % , the Jews are insignificant , and like in Norway, France, Holland Germany and many other cities in Scandinavia and Europe flooded by Asylum seekers/ Refugees from Islamic the Jews will be left to fend for them selves.
Israel is a good alternative.
