The event realized Rabbi Jeffrey Kamins’ vision of hosting Lior as part of the sanctuary’s revitalization, completed in September 2022.

The evening opened with Rabbi Kamins leading the Havdalah ceremony assisted by synagogue president, Grant McCorquodale. This was followed by the Nomad String Quartet, led by Ben Adler and featured Beth Condon, James Larsen, and Georgia Cartlidge. Their set, featuring innovative classical renditions and even Danish Folk Songs, showcased the quartet’s inventive style and set the stage for the night’s main act.

Lior delivered a moving performance, blending beloved classics such as “This Old Love,” “Daniel,” and “Bedouin Song” with new works from his album “The Blue Parade. The album, a collaboration with guitarist and composer Cameron Deyell and produced by Lachlan Carrick, highlights Lior’s evolution as an artist. He also features some breathtaking covers including a superb arrangement of “Sim Shalom.” Throughout the concert, his clear tone and remarkable range left the audience spellbound.

The Nomad String Quartet accompanied Lior throughout the evening, with longtime collaborator, Brett Hirst on double bass providing a grounding rhythm. Lara Goodridge joined Lior for several exquisite duets, her harmonies enhancing the emotional depth of the performance. The sanctuary’s acoustics amplified the music’s intimacy, creating a spellbinding atmosphere. Audience members praised the concert’s emotional resonance and musical precision.
