78th anniversary of Kristallnacht
Today’s the 78th anniversary of the Kristallnacht…the night Nazis unleashed a horrific attack on Germany’s Jews.
Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission Dvir Abramovich said: “Today, we come together with people in many countries to mark the 78th anniversary of the chilling and government ordered pogroms of Kristallnacht – “the Night of Broken Glass”.
We grieve for lost lives and vow to do everything in our power to prevent such dark and chilling episodes from ever being unleashed against any group. We also shed a tear not only for the horrific decimation of Jewish businesses, homes and synagogues, and the slaying of innocents, but also for the destruction of a vibrant and culturally rich community.
As anti-Zionism, group hatred and religiously and ethnically motivated violence proliferate globally , we are mindful of what can happen if we ignore the potential dangers of radical ideologies that threaten our freedoms. Kristallnacht is a timely reminder of how evil can spread if left unchecked, and as we sombrely remember, the key lesson to be drawn from this barbaric event is to never be silent, always be vigilant and to always speak up against antisemitism, Holocaust denial, extremism and xenophobia.”
