Melbourne’s Brighton Shule in will celebrate Chazan Chaim Lavi’s 50 years of service next month.

Cantor Chaim Lavi

In 1969, the young Israeli joined Brighton in Melbourne’s growing south-eastern suburbs. Fifty years on the chazan, barmitzvah teacher and baal koreh is still a mainstay at the shule, smiling and greeting all congregants as they arrive, inevitably, after Chaim.
Chaim continues to lein most shabbosim and chagim. Countless barmitzvah boys who are now fathers and grandfathers learned their parishiot from Chaim.
And there is a tradition at Brighton kiddushim, Chaim is in charge of the whisky bottle, apportioning glasses judiciously.
The celebration is on Sunday 8 December at the Shule in Marriage Road Brighton at 2:30 pm. Please contact the Shule if you would like to join us on 9592-9179 or email [email protected]
