$3.5million support for Victoria’s Jewish community
The Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) has welcomed the Government announcement of support for Jewish community security infrastructure of $3 million plus an additional $500,000 for security infrastructure at Beth Weizmann.
The total commitment to Beth Weizmann is now $1 million including the $500,000 allocated in the May 2015 budget.
Jennifer Huppert, President of the JCCV stated, “This is an excellent outcome, which will facilitate works which will enhance the safety and security of the Jewish community in the face of serious concerns about the risks faced by the community, largely arising from events overseas. We are delighted that the Government has underlined its support for the Jewish community with this funding, and we expect that this is the start of an ongoing investment program over a number of years to better secure our community.”
This Government funding comes after a number of years of risk analysis, planning and prioritisation of community needs, and evidence based advocacy.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott stated, “Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we’re working with our proud multicultural communities to make Victoria safer, fairer and stronger.”
Ms Huppert stated, “We also welcome the significant investment by the Government to address issues of concern to the community, including increased funding for multicultural festivals and events, policing and the justice system, youth crime, mental health and drug addiction, and LGBTI inclusion.”
