$40million for faith-based institutions – applications now open
Applications are now open for the Albanese Government’s Securing Faith-Based Places grant program.
The program has been launched to ensure people of all faiths can practise their beliefs free from violence and discrimination.
The grant, to be spread over four years, is open to religious schools and preschools, places of worship and faith-based community centres.
In a statement released from the office of Attorney General Mark Dreyfus, the government makes clear that the Securing Faith-Based Places will be an open, competitive and merit-based grants program.
From today, eligible organisations can apply for grants between $25,000 and $500,000 to address risks of crime and violence resulting from religious and racial intolerance.
The program will support security infrastructure upgrades, including fencing, lighting, security cameras, traffic barriers, alarm systems, and access controls, as well as the engagement of security guards.
Peter Wertheim, co-CEO of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry, told J-Wire: “We have been in contact with all the Jewish organisations across Australia that fall within the government’s guidelines explaining the criteria needed to make an application.”
Wertheim stresses that should an organisation slipped through the cracks, they should contact ECAJ.
Grant guidelines and a sample agreement are available at http://business.gov.au and https://help.grants.gov.au from today.
Applications can be submitted on the Business Portal at https://portal.business.gov.au until 5:00 PM AEST 11 September 2023.
